Mayday on ADI Design Index 2018
The ADI Design Permanent Observatory has selected MAYDAY for publication on the ADI Design Index 2018
Expressed through ironic and playful language, the Mayday single-lever mixer stands out for the formal use of a traditional typical alarm button, reinterpreted as a wall-mounted tap. This design approach changes the way of interacting with the object: the water is no longer turned on by raising a lever as in traditional single-lever mixer models but by pulling and then pressing a large coloured button.
In this way the design plays on the reversal of uses and meanings: an element usually associated with an emergency situation and with which to interact only in extreme cases becomes an amusing call for “help” in everyday life. Mayday can be installed in various remote wall configurations and is thus adaptable to a range of uses including sink taps, shower heads and hand showers.
